The Yacht Club Hyderabad is a premier destination for sailing enthusiasts and those who love to experience the best outdoor activities and water sports. Situated along the banks of the majestic Hussain Sagar Lake, this club is one of the most popular destinations for adventure enthusiasts and water sports lovers.

In 2009, Suheim Sheikh, Founder and President of the Yacht Club, Hyderabad, had the vision to create infrastructure for sailing in the area, building upon a century-long sailing tradition at Hussain Sagar.

On World Environment Day June 5th, 2009, the Yacht Club of Hyderabad was established with a single idea – to provide a safe and reliable training institution for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Over the years, the Club has grown immensely, transforming a formerly dilapidated and broken-down jetty of 60 years into a sturdier, well-facilitated jetty. Now, with more than 150 boats as of May 2021 and lots of people taking advantage of the facility, the Club is thriving.

Establishing the Yacht Club as a Not for Profit organization, the club focused on economically disadvantaged children from government schools and honed its training methods to the extent that it achieved numerous national championships in the sub-junior and junior divisions, with many medalists.

The Yacht Club of Hyderabad – YCH has provided financial and nutritional support, as well as educational opportunities, to assist orphans and disadvantaged children of various backgrounds, such as farming and labour, to reach their highest potential.

In 2015, with a view to creating an enduring legacy, the club opened its doors to the public and added Kayaking to its range of activities. Nonetheless, it remains solely a training centre and does not provide any leisure activities or rides.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced sailor, their fully equipped marina and experienced instructors provide a safe and enjoyable environment to learn, practice, and race. They offer a range of courses from basic sailing classes to advanced racing lessons. The instructors are experienced sailors and have the expertise to get you out on the water and having fun in no time.

Boats and Facilities at the club:

OPTIMISTS: The club has 110 Optimists boats. Optimist boats are ideal for those aged 16 and under, and weighing less than 45kgs. Over 80% of Olympic medallists have gained their sailing skills sailing in the Optimist!

OMEGAS: The club has 4 Omega boats. The Omega is an excellent sailing craft, perfect for racing and training too. With two sails and 4.7m long, the boat can take up to four crew members.

LASERS: The club has 16 Laser class boats. Laser boats are Olympic-level sailing vessels, and also a staple in the Asian Games. Additionally, the largest National regattas are sailed in these Laser boats.

KAYAKS: The Yacht Club has 6 Triyaks or three-person Kayaks. Kayaking is a great way to explore the lake, and Triyaks or three-person sit-on-top Kayaks make it easy to learn and stay fit. These kayaks offer a great workout for the whole upper body and are perfect for family outings. With one, two, or three paddlers, you can enjoy an enjoyable spin on the lake.

SAFETY BOATS: The Yacht Club places great emphasis on safety and has 9 motorized vessels, including 7 Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) with 4-stroke engines.

LAUNCHING FACILITY: The yacht Club has the largest Floating Pontoon in the state, and one of the biggest in the country. It provides a safe launching and landing platform for sailing vessels, with a 100-meter jetty perfect for training.

BOATSHED: The Yacht Club of Hyderabad has a Boatshed that is equipped with video training facilities, as well as an exclusive library of video training material.
