Hyderabad city is a melting pot of culture and tradition, making it a vibrant destination for shopping, and shopping in Koti and Sultan Bazar is an experience like no other.

History of Koti Market and Sultan Bazaar:

In the past, Hyderabad’s Abids and Koti area was governed by one government while the neighbouring Muazzamjahi Market had its own set of laws, regulations, and administrative systems. One area was governed by the British and the other area was governed by the Nizams.

In 1933, insight and sound judgment led to the British and Nizam governments united both areas under one governing body, and the British bestowed the Residency Bazaars, more popularly known as the Sultan Bazaar, to the Nizam’s Government.

Sultan Bazaar or the Residency Bazaar came into existence when the population of the walled city grew to its maximum capacity and the people living there began to move to the other side of the Musi River, i.e the Residency. Clusters of dwellings and shops sprang up around the Residency, the headquarters of the British Resident and the area came to be known as Koti

Over time, clusters of buildings grew into a bustling suburb. People from the north, both local and immigrant, started residing here and conducted successful businesses. Meanwhile, Christian missionaries established churches and other organizations, giving the area its now-familiar name of Residency Bazaars or Sultan Bazar.

Sultan Bazar, an active commercial hub, is home to a 150-year-old government school, a notable clock tower, and a plethora of heritage monuments. The clock tower has been a witness to various nationalist protests against Nizam’s reign.
