Osman Sagar was formed by damming the Musi River, in order to provide an extra source of drinking water for Hyderabad and to safeguard the city from flooding right after the Great Musi Flood of 1908.
The Nizam, Mir Osman Ali sought counsel from the renowned engineer Sri Sir M.Visheswaraya regarding the twofold issues of severe flooding during monsoon and severe water shortage in summer. In response, he devised a plan for the construction of a dam, a complex engineering feat in those days. This ingenious solution resolved both the issues faced by Hyderabad.
It is now the primary source of drinking water for the city of Hyderabad and its surrounding areas. It is surrounded by lush green hills and is an ideal place to relax and unwind.
